Under late night screen glare we invite you to take a slanted glance at the experimental electronic stock of sonic excavators Wanda Group, Huerco S., Microburst and more. Helical Scans is our long awaited debut compilation album and a cross section of the scene we've grown out of. Originally tipped for release on VHS (a format we hold dear but that proved too impractical) it now arrives as a limited addition cassette and digital download with an accompanying 40 minute video via an encoded URL (available directly from us on request.) From the predatory trudge of Wanda Groups OVERR AREA to the peculiar rhythms and off-trend house music of Bantam Lions' Carousel; Helical Scans is a cross section of decayed House, deconstructed Hip Hop archetypes and deep synth exploration. An over-all slouch towards low fidelity and experimental electronics binds these tracks together as a gauzy lump of bedroom ready anthems, through which pours the dynamic musical essence of each artist. On the visual front, tailoring closely to each track we have a psychotropic slurry of warped VHS, cheap early digital FX, found footage, video feedback and post Windows-Media-Player abstractions conjured and woven together by artist Ryan Lumley.
